Melbourne's College

Melbourne’s college charity is the North Staffs Adventure Playground and is an independent registered charity, based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, which provides a wide range of play, recreational and educational activities and facilities for disabled children, young people and adults.

The playground was first opened in 1989 after a group of parents started to fund raise for their children. Their vision was to provide a safe and stimulating play space for disabled children and their families. There are both indoor and outdoor facilities for people to enjoy no-matter the weather. The children are well looked after with plenty of facilities fitted to their individual needs such as disabled toilets and different activities to strengthen weak bones and muscles.

The staff take time out of their day to care for these children and do not get paid because they are volunteers. Their aid is much appreciated by the disabled children who spend a lot of time there and our college hopes to raise money to support these volunteers.

We chose the Special Adventure Playground as our college charity because their work is life changing for the disabled children and their families. The people work at an inspirational charity which has changed people’s lives for the better since it first opened and they deserve some support for all of their hard work.
